Trunk Club
Owned by Nordstrom.
During the Fall of my Junior year, I was lucky enough to be selected to represent Florida State at the NRF Shop.Org Summit in Seattle, WA. Jamie Nordstrom spoke during the Summit about Nordstrom and what exciting initiatives they were implementing. He announced Nordstrom’s acquisition of Trunk Club, a subscription-based service where customers have a personal stylist who picks out top designer labels and ships them to your home for free. After signing up, men are interviewed by a stylist about their personal tastes and provide their measurements. They then receive their first “trunk” – a box containing a selection of clothing and other items, and they only pay for what they don’t mail back within 10 days (Perez). Trunk Club shoppers are also able to use Nordstrom’s tailors for alterations.
This past July, Trunk Club announced their expansion into providing their services to women. Because of its relationship with Nordstrom, Trunk Club for women will carry clothing that’s similar in price and quality to what’s available in the store, including brands like Vince, Theory, DVF, Equipment, rag & bone, Joie, and others. There are no extra markups on the clothing, so it’s not more expensive than shopping in a Nordstrom store. Trunk Club Chief Executive Officer Brian Spaly describes Trunk Club for Women customer as a busy, 30- to 50-year-old affluent, urban professional who likes to shop, but is always looking for ways to be more efficient (Hughes).
“We get text messages at seven in the morning from customers saying, ‘I have a big meeting today, what shirt should I match with this blazer?’ ”
-Brian Spaly, Trunk Club CEO
